Translations of diplomas and school certificates from Ukraine

Diploma, supplement and study history

The material includes the diploma and the supplement or annex specified in the assignment: subjects, grades, hours or credits, placements and other elements of the course of study. Provide all pages, stamps, reverse sides and annotations covered by the translation.

For several stages of education, documents are labelled by institution, issue date and study level. The diploma number and supplement identifier link the parts of the set.

Names of qualifications and educational institutions

NAWA’s guide to translating education documents recommends retaining professional titles and academic degrees in the source language. Using original names allows the receiving institution to identify the qualification within the system in which it was awarded.

The translation preserves school and university names, document identifiers, grades and information on grading scales supplied in the source. NAWA’s principles serve as a reference for this terminology.

School certificates and other certificates

An order may cover school certificates, grade supplements, certificates of completion, records of completed courses and documents confirming a period of education. The enquiry identifies the receiving institution and required set.

For admission, employment or qualification proceedings, we define the scope of each document, the number of copies and the deadline. Documents identified in the university's or employer's requirements form the list of material for quotation.

Spelling of personal details and certification basis

For given names and surnames written in the Ukrainian alphabet, Art. 14(2) of the Act on the Profession of Sworn Translator requires transliteration or transcription to be based on a travel document or copy. If unavailable, the spelling rules of the country where the translated document was drawn up apply.

Certification states the register number and translation basis under Art. 18(2): original, translation or copy, and, for a translation or copy, whether it was certified and by whom. We agree the translation basis and method of making the document available when accepting the order.

What should be provided to agree an assignment?

• Diploma and supplement or appendix covered by the order.
• All pages of certificates, grade records and attestations.
• Receiving institution, required documents and deadline.
• A travel document or copy showing Latin-script spelling, if available.
